What we measure, when, and what is not met.
1The target we have set
WCAG 2.2, level AAA for text contrast, focus appearance and target size. That is above what the law asks for. It is our own requirement, not one imposed on us.
The legal basis is EN 301 549, which points to WCAG. Directive (EU) 2019/882 applies from 28 June 2025. In Norway, the regulation on universal design of ICT applies.
2What is measured
Measurements are taken in a browser, on the finished page, in the light and dark themes, at every release. A gate stops the release if a requirement is not met.
- Text contrast — every text element on every surface, against 7:1 (4.5:1 for large text and for secondary text, see section 3), and every pair in the colour palette
- Focus appearance (2.4.13) — every keyboard stop, against an indicator of at least 2 pixels
- Target size, enhanced (2.5.5) — every target, against 44 × 44 pixels. Links inside running text and browser-controlled controls are exempt, as the criterion itself allows
- Keyboard navigation, labels, landmarks and heading order — on the finished response
3What is not met
One recorded deviation from the text contrast target. From 5 October 2026, secondary text in the application meets WCAG 1.4.3 level AA, 4.5:1, rather than our own AAA target of 7:1. This covers the subtitle in a row, column headings, counters, timestamps and placeholders — text that orients rather than text that is read. Measured at the last release: 416 of 3,376 text elements. Everything else, including body text, headings, links, buttons, status words and the whole public surface, stands at 7:1.
The reason is legibility over time: when secondary text must also sit at 7:1, it becomes almost as dark as the text it sits beneath, and the distinction between what is read and what merely orients disappears. The values are solved to 5.0:1 against the darkest surface they can appear on. A gate refuses the role on headings, links, buttons and status chips, and counts the scope at every release.
Until 30 September 2026, four colour pairs fell short of the AAA target. They were corrected when the colour palette was reworked.
Some things we cannot yet measure, and we record them as gaps rather than leaving them unsaid:
- The sticky top bar's behaviour in iOS Safari cannot be measured in the browser we have in the release pipeline. We measure the cause instead of the symptom
- AAA is the target for the three criteria above. We do not claim AAA for every criterion in WCAG 2.2 — several cannot be measured mechanically, and a claim we cannot verify is not a statement
A gap someone has written down is a gap someone can weigh.
